Communication protocols:
World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). W3C is the main international standards organisation for the world wide web. The purpose of W3C is to develop protocols and guidelines that ensure long-term growth for the web.
Wireless Access Protocol (WAP). WAP is a technical standard for accessing information over a mobile wireless network. A WAP browser is a web browser for mobile devices such as mobile phones, iPods, iPads, laptops etc. that allows them to use wifi to connect to the internet, places such as McDonals and Starbucks offer free wifi connection for their customers.
3rd Generation Protocols (3G). 3G is a generation of standards for mobile telecommunication. Application services include wide-area wireless voice telephone, mobile internet access, video calls and mobile TV.
Instant messaging (IM) is a form of real-time direct text-based chatting communication in push mode between two or more people using personal computers or other devices, along with shared clients. The user's text is sent over a network, such as the internet. More advanced instant messaging software clients also allow enhanced modes of communication, such as live voice or video calling.
Short messaging system (SMS) also known as text messaging, is most often used between private mobile phone users, as a substitute for voice calls in situations where voice communication is impossible or undesirable. Text messaging is significantly cheaper than placing a phone call to another mobile phone. Though texting can be used in a working environment, it is more commonly used in a social manner, for two people to communicate with each other, without the need for an internet connection.
A blog (a blend of the term web log) is a personal journal published on the world wide web consisting of discrete entries or posts typically displayed in reverse chronological order so the most recent post appears first. Blogs are usually the work of a single individual, occasionally of a small group, and often are themed on a single subject. Just like what I am doing now.
Conferencing may refer to video conferencing, audio conferencing etc. a conference is a meeting of people who confer about a topic. Audio conferencing is a telephone call in which the calling party wishes to have more than one called party listen in to the audio portion of the call. The conference calls may be designed to allow the called party to participate during the call, or the call may be set up so that the called party merely listens into the call and cannot speak. Videoconferencing uses set of telecommunication technologies which allow two or more locations to communicate by simultaneous two-way video and audio transmissions.
Internet Services:
World Wide Web (www) is a system of interlinked hypertext documents accessed via the internet. With a web browser, you can view web pages that may contain text, images, videos, and other multimedia and navigate between them via hyperlinks.
Internet Service Providers (IPS) is a company that provides access to the internet. Access ISPs directly connect customers to the internet using copper wires, wireless or fiber-optic connections. Hosting ISPs lease server space for smaller businesses and other people. Transit ISPs provide large amounts of bandwidth for connecting hosting ISPs to access ISPs.
Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is a specific character string that constitutes a reference to an internet resource. Every URL consists of some of the following: the scheme name (commonly called protocol), followed by a colon, two slashes, then, depending on scheme, a domain name (alternatively an IP address), a port number, the path of the resource to be fetched or the program to be run, then, for programs such as Common Gateway Interface (CGI) scripts, a query string, and an optional fragment identifier.
Domain name, top level domain, domain name registration and hosting.
Web 2.0:
A social networking service is an online platform, or site that focuses on building and reflecting of social networks or social relations among people, who for example, share interests and/or activities. A social network consists of a representation of each user (often a profile), his or her social links, and a variety of additional services. Most social network services are web-based and provide means for users to interact over the internet, such as e-mail and instant messaging.
One example of Information Sharing is Facebook. It allows you to create your own account within the Facebook server, in which you can share your information with other people using Facebook, and change your privacy settings based on who you want to be able to see your information.
Adding Content (e.g. video's to YouTube). You can create an account within YouTube, and create your own username, once this is done you can begin to add video's onto your YouTube channel to share with anyone who may use YouTube.

Multimedia messaging system (MMS). MMS is a standard way to send messages that include multimedia content to and from mobile phones. It extends the core SMS capability that allowed exchange of text messages only up to 160 characters in length, the most common use of SMS is to send photographs between two people, but it can also be used to send video's and MP3's.
General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). GPRS is a packet oriented mobile data service on the 2G and 3G cellular communication system's. GPRS usage is charged based on volume of data, which is typically supplied either as part of a bundle or on a pay-as-you-use basis.
Bluetooth is a open wireless technology used for exchanging data over short distances from fixed and mobile devices, bluetooth users can send various files to other bluetooth users, such as images, MP3's, video's and more.
Methods:
Electronic mail, commonly known as email or e-mail, is a method of exchanging digital messages from an author to one or more recipients. Modern email operates across the internet or other computer networks. Some early email systems required that the author and the recipient both be online at the same time, in common with instant messaging. Today's email systems are based on a store-and-forward model. Email servers accept, forward, deliver and store messages. Neither the users nor their computers are required to be online simultaneously; they need connect only briefly, typically to an email server, for as long as it takes to send or receive messages.
