Unit 04 – Professional Behaviour in the Creative Media Sector.

The cultures of media workplaces I think are all fairly similar, all though you will find slight variation with different employers, a lot of the same rules still apply. With regards to dress code I think that the same standards apply to everyone, as long as you are dressed in appropriate clothing and you look presentable and smart then you have a lot of freedom in what you chose to wear, whereas if you had a job for example working in an office, a suit and tie would be the most appropriate dress code, employee's within media workplaces can dress slightly more relaexed than this as long as they still look smart, or if there is an occassion where they have a meeting with a client or someone else who is important to the company, their dress may change, and they may be required to dress more smart and formal. Although I am only an apprentice and I do not work here full time I feel that the rules regarding time off and sick leave are fairly flexible, as I do not have to give too much notice if I would like to book a holiday for that month, or if I am ill I can ring in on the morning and tell my employer I won't be coming into work today, though this may change based on who your employer is. With regards to language and the atmosphere in the office I think that no matter where you are, the majority of employers will expect the same level of respect from you, in that you don't swear and you speak to others respecively and politely, and you maintain a certain level of proffessionalism within your working environment, in that you can still speak to one another but you still get on with your work, and you don't distract people from their work.

One example of challenging behaviour within the workplace is something that you could deal with on any given day, you are speaking to someone on the phone who is perhaps being a bit rude. This is something that could quite easily happen but you must know how to deal with it in a professional mannor. Another example would be if you had to change a delivery time or date, if this occasion should arise one thing you must ensure you do is inform the person who the delivery is for, and keep them up to date, and informed on everything you are doing, as they need to know what is going on with whatever they have ordered. You also need to keep in contact with the Production Manager and Production Coordinator.

The way you handle yourself at work can impact those around you in different ways, for one your mood can impact other people, if you come into work, and you are slumped over in your chair, frowning etc well, it is pretty obvious that you are not in a good mood, and this can rub off on the people around you, and influence their mood, in the same way that if you come into the office with a bright face and a positive attitude, it's easy for everyone to see that you are happy, and they can then lock onto this, and it will perhaps improve their mood, or the general atmosphere in your working environment. So when you come into work and if you are in a bad mood, try and leave it at the door and come in happy and cheerful, as it makes for a happier, more comfortable, conflict free workplace.
